INSANE CALI - Z23 Buterin Elite

Today's spotlight is on Insane Cali, an Elite Buterin racer out of Gulf Coast Racing. This horse has some amazing lineage and a large family tree. Not always good for me since I have to comb through all of it but I do it for the people! I'm joking of course, sort of....lots of caffeine was involved let's just say that. The following family tree sourced from https://zedrun.tools/bloodline/19027.

Insane Cali looks like a fun horse to run. She isn't necessarily kicking ass and taking numbers Richard Petty style but she's nearly even ROI and when you like to race sometimes racing for basically free is all that matters. Keith, the owner of Gulf Coast Racing reached out and thought she'd be a great little horse to feature and after looking at her I thought so too. But first let's hear from Keith and how he got started!

"I heard about Zedrun in March, via Darren Rovell on local sports radio. Dove in with about 1K USD. Missed on the April drop, bought a donkey and started racing. Watched every video by Doofy, Poseiden, and ZG. Missed on the next drop, bought more donkeys, sold some, raced some. Finally got two genesis butes in the make up drop, bought a third. Bought Insane Cali along the way and had a good month or two racing her, not a life changer but fun to get a few dubs. Current stable is mainly breeding butes and flipping unraced to pay for the addiction. One day I'll find a monster and claim my spot on the leader board! I have lots of dumb theories and opinions I'll keep to myself for now."

There are actually NEVER any dumb theories or opinions!!

"Short term, I'd like to find a racer. 10% win rate, positive ROI. For the stable, I plan to continually upgrade until I have a decent bloodline for breeding. The elite Buterins aren't getting it done. I believe the ZR team plans to evolve to pari-mutuel betting, and that may take a couple years. If they get there, ZedRun will be around for a long time."

Parimutuel betting? Now there's an idea!! Hmmmm.

"I will add a couple fun facts for you. I'm a baseball stat nerd, and have always loved horse racing because of the numbers. I manage a small sales team for a data collection company, more numbers. I love being part of the ZedRun community..."

Keith is definitely working his stable up and being a numbers guy may actually put him at an advantage. Right now breeding and selling unraced is a strategy of many stables to try and get into higher genesis horses or really good proven racers. If breeding minimums are changed though that strategy may have to change, that will definitely be a decision made by numbers.

I was happy to look at Insane Cali when I saw her family tree. Insane Hymn and Typhon Breeze are well known in the community if you have been around awhile as very good racers in their own right. Insane Hymn also puts out an "insane" amount of good offspring. But going one step beyond that I found a Z1 Nakamoto I had never heard of which is shocking considering the sheer amount of good offspring it has sired, Stunner is in fact a stunner.

This family tree starts out stacking Naks, strong Naks and then breeds in a Genesis Buterin on down. Great strategy by previous horse owners that suggests a continued strong line. Breeding Insane Cali with a competitive Genesis horse, maybe even a different bloodline (ie back into Nakamotos) would make for hopefully competitive offspring. As we get further into breeding it will be interesting to see if Nakamotos continue to be the strong building blocks of good family trees.

I want to thank Keith for taking the time to let us in on his story of how he got started, his strategy and his goals! ZED Run is meant to be fun and explorative but it's nice to be able to fund your stable's growth along the way. Hopefully the numbers work out in Keith's favor and we'll have to see what Insane Cali's offspring can do on the track too!

What are your thoughts on what may have contributed to such a great racer being born? I look forward to hearing from you!
